improv class funSo you’re kind of interested in taking improv classes. You aren’t sure if it is for you though. It sounds scary, has the potential for embarrassment, and you just don’t know if you’d be any good. You know what those thoughts sound like?

Excuses.

Fear is never a reason not to do something (except maybe kill a spider). In improv we teach you to embrace your fears and insecurities and use them to your advantage. The fact of the matter is, improv will change your life for the better.

“Woah, that’s dramatic,” you’re thinking, but it’s the truth.

There are many reasons to take improv classes. Here are just some of the most common reasons we see folks get started taking classes at The Village Theatre.

I Want to Become Better at Public Speaking

Getting up in front of people and having all eyes on your can be a terrifying experience. Voice quivers, a fountain of sweat, and your skin quickly gaining a tomatoesque hue are some of the most common reasons a lot of folks avoid it. We can’t think of any better way to get over this fear than getting up in front of a group of people without knowing what you are about to say. You might have a sweaty and quivery first few classes, but soon, you’ll get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Your dry shirts will thank you for taking the leap.

I’m Just Not a Very Confident Person

In improv, you can be whatever you want to be. If you get comfortable being an eccentric billionaire who lives on the moon, being Mary from accounting will definitely feel easy in comparison. Standing up in front of a group of people and realizing you have the power to make someone laugh and be engaged in what you are doing is the ultimate confidence booster.

You’ll Become a Better Listener

Much like good conversation, improv is about give and take, not just waiting for your turn to talk. Improv will teach you to really focus on what your partner is doing and saying and help build off of that. Soon people will be saying “I just love talking to you, you’re such a good listener!” If you don’t get that compliment, then they probably aren’t listening to what you are saying and you’ll link them to this blog post. Then you’ll be a hero. A really great at listening hero.

I Have an Interest in Acting and/or Comedy

Well this is an easy one. You’ll learn some sweet acting skills and laugh your ass off. Boom!

This is just a small list of the amazing things improv can do for you. You’ll also be trying something new and meeting a bunch of new people. I bet you’re already feeling a little more confident to pull that trigger and sign up aren’t you?

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about taking classes. Our goal is to provide a comfortable environment for you to learn and get exactly what you want out of improv classes.
