Elective: Musical Improv 1

This is a comprehensive course in which we examine the ‘bones’ of a musical and the layers we use to perform an improvised musical.  We’ll look at principles of narrative long form, such as story structure and character development, as well as musical components like song structure (including tips for ‘naked’ songwriting) and song archetypes.  Students will gain perspective on narrative and songwriting, and a sturdy foundation upon which to create (or add to) an improvised musical.
